WAI to Supply Agglomerated Biocarbon for Electric Arc Furnace Steel Production

WAI Environmental Solutions AS, a pioneering green technology company headquartered in Tønsberg, Norway, has entered a four-year supply contract with SSAB, a global leader in premium and advanced high-strength steels.

Under the contract, WAI will supply its agglomerated biocarbon for use in Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steelmaking, supporting efforts to replace fossil carbon materials in the steelmaking process.

WAI’s formulation technology converts charcoal and biochar into high-density, easy-to-handle, safe-to-store agglomerated biocarbon. It is engineered to replace fossil carbon as a slag foaming agent in EAF steelmaking.

The contract marks an important step in the commercialization and scaling of WAI’s biocarbon formulation technology and its application in the global steel industry.
