On November 2, 2022, the third project status meeting for the RenCARBio project (NRC 326914-Biochar as a quality recycling product from organic waste fractions) was organized at WAI’s headquarter office in Tønsberg. Partners from Aquateam COWI, NORSUS, IVAR IKS, Norwegian Biochar Network and Biogass Oslofjord attended the meeting in person. Other partners from NMBU, The City of Bergen, ÅRIM,and WAI, joined the meeting online. At the end, a tour to WAI’s research facilities was arranged, where the different-scale pyrolysis units used in the project were shown
RenCARBio is a 4-year R&D collaboration project led by Aquateam COWI to develop biochar from various organic streams for agriculture application. The project aims to look deep into the quality of the biochar products obtained with respect to organic pollutants, pharmaceuticals and available nutrient content. It has been granted 9.1 MNOK by the Norwegian Research Council and is a collaboration between research (Aquateam COWI, NMBU, NORSUS), public (IVAR IKS, The City of Bergen, ÅRIM, Kalnes Agricultural School) and private actors (WAI). The project also counts with the guidance of the Norwegian Biochar Network and Biogass Oslofjord organizations. WAI participates as the technology partner providing the pyrolysis equipment and installations for the research as well as the expertise regarding biochar production.
